Fast self-check:

If you already hold a recognised LL.B., fall within the applicable age range and satisfy the relevant service/category conditions, you can prepare on the basis that you meet the core UKAPO eligibility framework.

Understand the framework

Who Can Apply for Uttarakhand APO?

A candidate must satisfy the essential law qualification and age condition together with the applicable service and document requirements. Reservation benefits require a separate category-and-domicile check.

01

Law Qualification

You should hold a recognised LL.B. / law degree by the eligibility cut-off prescribed for the recruitment.

02

Age & Relaxation

Your age should fall within the prescribed 21–42 year framework after applying any valid category relaxation.

03

Documents & Service Conditions

Nationality, category, domicile where relevant, character, medical fitness and supporting certificates must also be in order.

Academic requirement

Educational Qualification for Uttarakhand APO

Essential qualification

The essential academic requirement is a Law Graduate / LL.B. degree from a recognised university.

Your degree should be complete by the eligibility cut-off prescribed in the recruitment process.

3-year LL.B. and 5-year integrated law courses

A recognised 3-year LL.B. after graduation and a recognised 5-year integrated law degree both satisfy the basic requirement of being a law graduate, subject to the exact wording of the recruitment notification.

Provisional degree / final result

If your final result has been declared and the degree has been awarded, keep the final marksheets and degree/provisional degree ready. What matters is possessing the prescribed qualification by the relevant cut-off, not merely the date on which the physical degree is printed.

Preferential qualification

Where candidates are otherwise equal, the recruitment framework provides preference for qualifying Territorial Army service or an NCC 'B' Certificate. This is an additional preference—not an alternative to the essential LL.B. qualification.

Age requirement

Uttarakhand APO Age Limit: 21–42 Years

General benchmark

Minimum 21 Years

You should have attained the minimum age prescribed for the recruitment on the applicable cut-off date.

Upper age benchmark

Maximum 42 Years

The standard upper-age benchmark is 42 years, subject to relaxation available to eligible reserved or special categories under Uttarakhand Government rules.

How should age be calculated?
  1. Use the exact age cut-off date stated by UKPSC.
  2. Match your date of birth with the permitted date-of-birth window.
  3. Apply category relaxation only where you possess the required valid certificate.
  4. Do not calculate eligibility merely from your age on the exam date.
Who may receive upper-age relaxation?
CategoryCurrent relaxation framework
Uttarakhand SC / ST / OBC5 years in upper age limit.
Dependants of Freedom Fighters5 years.
PwBD / Divyang5 years for applicable Group-B recruitment, subject to the post being identified for the relevant disability category.
Ex-servicemenRelaxation applies under the prescribed service-based rules and conditions.
EWSNo separate upper-age relaxation merely on EWS status.

The fresh UKPSC APO notification will determine the applicable cut-off date and final category-wise relaxation conditions for this recruitment.

State status

Is Uttarakhand Domicile Required for APO?

Uttarakhand domicile is especially important when a candidate claims state reservation or another Uttarakhand-specific category benefit. It should not be confused with the essential academic qualification.

For Uttarakhand Reservation

To claim state vertical or horizontal reservation, you should satisfy the prescribed Uttarakhand domicile/status requirement and hold the correct category certificate.

For an Unreserved Candidate

A candidate should examine the general eligibility and recruitment conditions separately from reservation entitlement. A non-Uttarakhand category certificate does not automatically create a claim to Uttarakhand state reservation.

Practical rule:

If you intend to claim an Uttarakhand reserved-category benefit, prepare your domicile and category documents before the application window opens.

Advocacy / enrolment

Is Advocate Enrolment or Prior Practice Required?

No fixed prior-practice period is presently required.

The essential UKAPO qualification is the recognised law degree. The currently applicable APO eligibility framework does not prescribe a minimum number of years of courtroom practice as an essential condition.

Fresh Law Graduate

A candidate who has completed the recognised LL.B. can satisfy the academic requirement even without a fixed number of years of prior legal practice.

Advocate Enrolment

Do not assume that a Bar Council enrolment or a Civil Judge practice rule automatically becomes an UKAPO condition. UKAPO eligibility is governed by its own recruitment framework.

Reservation & relaxation

Reservation and Category Benefits

Reservation and age-relaxation benefits are applied according to the Uttarakhand Government rules in force for the recruitment and the category distribution notified by UKPSC.

Reservation areaCurrent Uttarakhand framework
SC / ST / OBCVertical reservation applies under Uttarakhand rules; actual UKAPO category-wise vacancies will be notified by UKPSC.
EWS10% vertical reservation, subject to the prescribed EWS certificate and eligibility conditions.
Uttarakhand Women30% horizontal reservation under the applicable State framework.
PwBD / Divyang4% horizontal reservation, subject to benchmark-disability requirements and the APO post being identified for the relevant disability category.
Other horizontal categoriesDFF, Ex-servicemen, eligible Uttarakhand orphan children and identified State Movement activists/dependants receive reservation under the applicable State rules.
Domicile & certificatesUttarakhand domicile/status and valid category documentation are required wherever the State reservation benefit is claimed.
Important:

These are the current State reservation principles. The actual number of UKAPO vacancies reserved for each category and the final certificate/cut-off requirements will be governed by the fresh UKPSC APO notification.

Qualification cut-off

Can Final-Year LL.B. Students Apply?

Degree must be complete

The safer and legally supported position is that the prescribed LL.B. qualification should be possessed by the recruitment's eligibility cut-off date. Merely studying in the final semester does not itself make a candidate a law graduate.

Number of attempts

There is no separate fixed numerical attempt limit in the current UKAPO eligibility framework. Your effective opportunities are controlled by age and the other eligibility conditions.

High Court guidance:

The Uttarakhand High Court has previously rejected a claim where the candidate had not completed the LL.B. by the relevant eligibility stage. Final-year candidates should therefore check the fresh cut-off carefully.

Can I apply?

Uttarakhand APO Eligibility Examples

LL.B. complete + age 28

You hold a recognised LL.B. and fall within the age range.

Position: Core educational and age conditions are satisfied, subject to other service requirements.

Final semester LL.B.

Your final examination/result is still pending on the eligibility cut-off.

Position: Do not treat yourself as eligible until the prescribed law qualification has been acquired.

LL.B. complete, no practice

You are a fresh law graduate with no fixed period of courtroom practice.

Position: Prior practice is not presently an essential UKAPO condition.

Age 44 with valid relaxation

Your general age exceeds 42, but you belong to a category carrying sufficient notified relaxation.

Position: Eligibility depends on the exact category relaxation and valid certificate.

Outside Uttarakhand

You meet the degree and age conditions but do not hold Uttarakhand domicile.

Position: General candidature and entitlement to Uttarakhand reservation are separate questions; you cannot assume state reservation benefits.

NCC 'B' Certificate

You meet all essential conditions and also possess the recognised preferential qualification.

Position: It may provide preference where the recruitment rules permit, but does not replace essential eligibility.

Common UKAPO Eligibility Mistakes

Avoid these assumptions

  • Calculating age on today's date instead of the notified cut-off.
  • Treating a final-semester LL.B. as a completed law degree.
  • Assuming NCC / Territorial Army preference replaces essential eligibility.
  • Assuming every reservation certificate issued outside Uttarakhand creates a state-reservation claim.

Check the right rule

  • Do not import Civil Judge practice conditions into the APO examination.
  • Do not confuse domicile with the essential law qualification.
  • Do not rely on a stale certificate where a current prescribed format is required.
  • Do not wait until document verification to discover a mismatch in name, date of birth or category.
Keep your file ready

Documents Candidates Should Keep Ready

Prepare clear scans and originals in advance so that the application window does not become a last-minute document exercise.

Core documents

  • Date-of-birth / High School certificate
  • LL.B. degree or valid provisional degree
  • Final law marksheets
  • Photo identity proof
  • Recent photographs and signature in the required format

Where applicable

  • Uttarakhand domicile certificate
  • SC / ST / OBC / EWS certificate
  • Horizontal reservation / PwBD certificate
  • NCC 'B' Certificate or Territorial Army service proof
  • NOC / employer permission if required
Before uploading:

Match your name, parent's name and date of birth across the application and supporting records. Keep any legal name-change or discrepancy document ready.

Questions aspirants ask

Uttarakhand APO Eligibility FAQs

What is the qualification for Uttarakhand APO?

A recognised LL.B. / law degree is the essential academic qualification.

What is the UKAPO age limit?

The current general benchmark is 21–42 years, with applicable upper-age relaxation for eligible categories under Uttarakhand Government rules.

Is Uttarakhand domicile compulsory?

Domicile is particularly relevant for claiming Uttarakhand state reservation or other state-specific benefits. Essential qualification and reservation entitlement should be checked separately.

Can a final-year LL.B. student apply?

The prescribed law degree should be possessed by the eligibility cut-off unless the notification expressly provides otherwise. A final-semester appearance alone should not be treated as completion of LL.B.

Is advocate practice required?

No fixed minimum practice period is presently part of the essential UKAPO eligibility framework.

Is Bar Council enrolment compulsory?

The essential recruitment requirement is the prescribed law qualification. Do not automatically import advocate-enrolment conditions from another examination.

Does NCC give an eligibility advantage?

An NCC 'B' Certificate is a preferential qualification where the recruitment rules apply it, but it does not replace the essential eligibility conditions.

Is there a fixed attempt limit?

There is no separate fixed numerical attempt limit in the current framework; age and the other eligibility criteria effectively determine candidature.

Has the fresh UKAPO notification been issued?

The fresh UKPSC APO recruitment notification is awaited as of 3 October 2026.
