Kerala Judiciary Direct Recruitment Eligibility

A candidate for appointment as Civil Judge Junior Division by direct recruitment should:

  1. Be a citizen of India.
  2. Hold a degree in Law recognised by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate.
  3. Have practiced for a minimum period of 3 years on the first day of January 2026.
  4. Not have completed 35 years of age on the first day of January 2026, subject to applicable relaxation.
  5. Be of good character.
  6. Be of sound health and free from bodily infirmities rendering the candidate unfit for appointment.

Practice Certificate Requirement

Candidates must produce a certificate showing years of practice issued by a competent person as prescribed. The period spent as a duly appointed Law Clerk / Research Assistant with any Judge or Judicial Officer in the country is considered while computing years of practice.

Kerala Judiciary Recruitment by Transfer Eligibility

For recruitment by transfer, an eligible officer should:

  1. Hold a degree in Law recognised by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate.
  2. Have practiced as an Advocate for not less than 3 years before appointment to one or more prescribed feeder categories.
  3. Be an approved probationer in the prescribed feeder category.
  4. Not have completed 54 years of age as on the last date fixed for closure of application filing process.

Eligible feeder categories include Assistant Public Prosecutor Grade I & II, eligible officers of the High Court, Advocate General's Office, Law Department, Sheristadars of courts, eligible court staff, full-time Assistant Professors of Government Law Colleges and Principal Counsellors of Family Courts in Kerala.

Shortlisting Rule

The ratio of notified vacancies to the number of successful candidates in the Preliminary Examination shall be 1:10. If more than one candidate obtains the same mark as the last shortlisted candidate, all such candidates securing identical marks will be treated as qualified for the Main Examination.

Training, Probation and Tests After Appointment

Training

Every person selected for appointment shall undergo training for a period of not less than one year, extendable up to two years. The training will be conducted by Kerala Judicial Academy.

Probation

Every person appointed shall be on probation for a total period of two years on duty within a continuous period of three years from the date of joining duty.

Tests

Every person appointed shall, within the period of probation, pass the Account Test for Executive Officers of Kerala State or the Account Test Lower, unless already passed.
